CNC Processing Compatibility
A plate of this 4.35-inch thickness will react differently depending on the CNC profiling method selected:
- CNC Waterjet: Recommended. High-pressure abrasive waterjet cutting handles steel plates up to 6 inches thick. It eliminates the Heat-Affected Zone (HAZ) and holds highly precise linear tolerances of roughly ±0.010 to ±0.020 inches without distorting or hardening the edges.
- CNC Plasma: Highly Efficient. Heavy-duty industrial plasma systems are incredibly fast and cost-effective for structural plates of this scale. Expect a wider standard tolerance (ranging from ±0.040 to ±0.060 inches) and a noticeable heat-affected edge that may require secondary grinding.
- CNC Laser: Not Ideal. Standard production fiber and CO₂ lasers typically cap out at 1 to 1.25 inches of thickness for carbon and alloy steel. Slicing a 4.35-inch plate exceeds the capacity of standard commercial laser systems
